Post -infectious acute cerebelitis in young patient

Keywords: headache, ataxia, Epstein-Barr virus infection, cerebellar diseases

Abstract

The case of a 20-year-old male with a history of treated pulmonary tuberculosis is presented, who had headache, dizziness, and ataxia. Imaging studies and lumbar puncture were normal but among the serological studies, IgM antibody against Epstein-Barr viruses was positive, suggesting postinfectious cerebelitis. Bacterial infections were ruled out and the patient was treated with intravenous methylprednisolone, improving rapidly. He was discharged in stable condition with neurological follow-up.
